The images in this series are an attempt to examine the physical complexity of being a woman. They are portraits of women in my family, rendered as girls with prominent objects attached to their bodies. They are depicted in the difficult stage between innocence and experience. While their faces might be still that of a young child the “pregnant” body of the mature woman implies differently. This figurative work is a combination of painting and three-dimensional work. The images are painted on plywood with added layers of texture in embroidery and knitting.
